Ketchum 3lb Grenade. Rare, almost exclusive to Port Hudson, dug grenade. These new combat innovations were used extensively in the trench warfare that was Port Hudson. Prior to the grand assaults whole regiments were armed with these weapons, They were to be thrown into the Confederate trenches prior to charging over the works. Grenades were originally designed for use in Naval warfare. They were to be tossed down from rigging to the decks of opposing ships prior to boarding. Configured to have a detachable rear shaft and fins to balance the shell so that it fell on its nose plunger detonating the bomb. The surface is smooth and only a slight surface rust remaining. It has been treated with a rusted preventative. This one was dug this past February and the new owner with get a aerial photo with the recover site marked on it. (kb203) $750 |
