artillery:
Ketchum 3lb Grenade. RARE, almost exclusive to Port
Hudson. These new combat innovations were used extensively
in the trench warfare that was Port Hudson. Prior to the
grand assaults whole regiments were armed with these
weapons, They were to be thrown into the Confederate
trenches prior to charging over the works. Grenades were
originally designed for use in Naval warfare. They were to
be tossed down from rigging to the decks of opposing ships
prior to boarding. Configured to have a detachable rear
shaft and fins to balance the shell so that it fell on its
nose plunger detonating the bomb. The surface is smooth
and only a slight surface rust remaining. It has been
treated with a rusted preventative. (kb203)
