Misc Non-Dug:
Here is a wonderfully significant
relic. It has seen the elephant! This
is a remnant of the capture flag of
the 30th Louisiana Infantry. The
brocaded star sits on a section of
blue silk field. It also includes the
hand written provenance, on period
paper, from the soldier who
describes the facts about its
captured.
"Star from the Flag of the
30th Louisiana Vols. (Rebels) by
Knifies(sp) Div Cav'y at Brentwood.
Dec 17th"
This action took place
during the Franklin/Nashville
campaign that destroyed the CS
Army of Tennessee. The 30th LA as
a regiment and later as a battalion
fought at Baton Rouge, Port Hudson,
Jackson MS., Mobile, Atlanta, Ezra
Church, and finally captured at
Brentwood, TN. Flag remnants from
an identified unit are becoming
harder and harder to find. (kb887)
